Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for an estimate / to come look?
Estimates are free — we come out, walk the site, and give you the exact price up front before any work is done.
How much does grading cost?
It really depends on the size of the area, how much dirt has to move, and the access, so we look at the site and give you the exact price for free — no guessing over the phone.
How soon can you start / schedule?
We can usually get out to look at the site pretty quickly and give you a timeline right then — let's get you on the schedule for an estimate.
I have water pooling / drainage problems in my yard
We handle that all the time — we'll come look at how the ground is draining and give you a plan and an exact price to move the water away from where it's sitting.
Can you fix / grade my driveway?
Yes — we grade and reshape gravel and dirt driveways to smooth out the ruts and potholes and get the water shedding off it. We'll give you the exact price after we see it.
Can you level my yard / an uneven area?
Absolutely — leveling and smoothing yards is one of our main jobs. We'll take a look and give you a free exact price.
Do you prep pads for a shed, pool, or slab?
Yes — we prep and compact level pads for sheds, pools, garages, and additions so whatever goes on top sits solid. We'll price it exactly on site.
Do you clear land / brush / lots?
We do land clearing to get a lot ready before grading — we'll come look and go over what's involved and the exact price.
Do you haul in dirt / fill / topsoil or haul it away?
Yes — we can bring in fill or topsoil or haul off extra dirt as part of the job, and it's all included in the exact price we give you on site.
Do you do commercial or just residential?
We handle both residential and commercial sites — homes, businesses, and larger lots.
Do I need a permit for grading?
That can depend on your city and the scope of the work — our crew knows what your area requires and will walk you through it during the estimate.
What about buried utility lines / 811?
We always have the utilities located before we dig — that's part of doing it safely, and we handle that step for you.
Do you guarantee the work won't settle?
We compact everything properly so it holds, and our crew will go over the guarantee on the work when they give you the estimate.
Will your equipment fit in my backyard / through the gate?
Good question — we have equipment in different sizes, so when we come out we'll check the access and pick the right machine for the space.
⚠️ Safety first
- Water actively flooding toward the house or foundation: Let's treat this as urgent. Try to keep the water away from any outlets or electrical, keep everyone clear of fast-moving water, and we'll get someone out to look at redirecting it as soon as we can.
- Slope, hillside, or retaining wall that looks like it's sliding or bulging: Please stay off that slope and keep everyone away from below it — if the ground looks like it's moving, that's a real safety concern. We'll get a crew out to assess it quickly.
- Gas smell or a buried utility line hit during digging: If you smell gas or think a line was struck, please get everyone away from the area right now and call 911 or your gas company — don't stay near it or try to check it yourself.
- Sinkhole or ground collapse appearing: Please rope that area off and keep people and pets well away from it, and we'll get someone out to look at it safely.
Know the terms
- Rough grading
- The first pass that shapes a site to approximate levels and slope.
- Finish grading
- The final smoothing to exact grade so sod, paving, or concrete can go down clean.
- Positive drainage
- Ground sloped so water flows away from the house instead of pooling against it.
- Swale
- A shallow shaped channel that carries water away from a structure.
- Compaction
- Packing soil down in layers so it stays firm and won't settle or crack later.
- Pad
- The leveled, compacted base a shed, slab, pool, or building sits on.
- Cut and fill
